Forest Management:While we are focusing here on wood and veneer, its natural characteristics, and what you should be be aware of when specifying the different species, it's important to acknowledge that there is plenty of confusion these days about wood and whether it is 'good' or 'bad' wood. Much of the confusion is a result of many organisations in the field that do not always work together, often give conflicting information and that fail to develop common definitions for similar terms. A true understanding can only be developed by becoming familiar with the various individual organisations and what they do. Selective Harvesting:Selective harvesting allows us to preserve forests. When mature trees are harvested it creates openings in the forest canopy that enable younger trees to flourish. Through the use of this harvesting technique, northern hardwood timber reserves have remained as a whole, constant over the last thirty years. |
